Lessons have been created to ensure a mentor's time with a student is productive.
At the elementary level (3rd grade), students will have their own books from the classroom to use with their mentor during the lesson. These books are usually on the student's reading level (Fountas & Pinnell) and can be fiction or non fiction. Mentors are expected to use this time to review an important reading skill or strategy and have the student practice responding to reading through writing. We encourage you to use these lessons along with the resources on Google Drive.
At the middle school level (7th grade), students will have an opportunity to be mentored by a CMS employee with aligned common core lesson supporting 7th grade standards and strategies. Each week students will meet with their mentor who will mentor students. Students will be using their composition book, reading text book, short stories, or novel around various genres to complete the lessons.
At the high school level (12th grade), mentors will complete an action plan to complete with high school seniors to make sure they are on track for graduation.
